The Henvey Inlet Wind Project is a 300 MW wind power development located in the Henvey Inlet No. 2 First Nation, approximately 80 km north of Parry Sound, Ontario. The Project was awarded a Feed-In-Tariff (FIT) contract in 2011. Construction began in September, 2017. Turbine delivery began in July 2018 and commercial operation was achieved December, 2019. The Henvey Inlet Project utilized the largest wind turbines installed to date in Canada and involved construction on the Canadian shield, with very onerous environmental constraints.
Key features include:
- 87 Vestas V136 WTG’s (3.45 MW, 132 m hub height) turbines
- Rotor/blade diameter of 126 m
- Approximately 71.2 km of access roads
- Approximately 90 km of 230 kV transmission line
- 2 new substations and 1 new switching station
- Significant rock work requirements
- Rock anchored foundations
- Multiple environmental constraints (species at risk, wetlands, etc.)
